Client background

A premium clinic, competing in one of the hardest verticals on Google Ads.

This high end multi specialty dental clinic provides elite oral healthcare, specializing in premium cosmetic dentistry and high value restorative procedures. Operating in a competitive metropolitan area, the clinic needed to attract premium patients: people who require comprehensive treatment plans, not basic checkups.

The goal was to establish a dominant position at the exact moment high intent prospects searched for specialized dental care, and to stop paying for clicks that were never going to become patients.

The problem

Local dental marketing on Google Ads is notoriously difficult: extreme regional saturation, aggressive bidding from corporate dental groups, and high average CPCs. Over May 2023, the account suffered from broad keyword bleeding, no negative keyword scrubbing, poor Quality Scores, and unoptimized ad copy.

Budget was being spent on low intent queries like "cheap dentists" and "free dental clinics", which kept the clinic from capturing high-yield patient acquisitions inside its own target geography.

The solution

A data-driven Search network restructure, built around intent.

Four changes, run together, to rebuild the account for structural efficiency and rapid patient acquisition.

  1. Match type restructuring

Migrated from loose broad match to strict phrase and exact match, with tightly themed ad groups separating high-intent commercial terms like "dental implants cost" from general informational searches.

  2. Negative keyword scrubbing

Deployed an exhaustive negative list blocking job-seeking queries, dental school directories, low-cost clinic searches, and irrelevant geographies, so impressions were reserved for premium private-care patients.

  3. Responsive Search Ad rebuild

Redesigned every RSA with dynamic keyword insertion, local social proof, and explicit calls to action such as "Schedule Your Free Cosmetic Consultation," with every asset extension fully populated.

  4. Smarter bid strategy

Moved onto a conversion-focused bidding framework that leverages Google's auction-time signals, so spend followed the queries most likely to convert instead of raw traffic volume.

30 days later: more patients, lower cost, smaller budget.

"Total ad spend actually decreased while conversions tripled and cost per patient dropped by three quarters. That's what happens when hyper-targeted intent replaces broad, unfiltered traffic."
